Kristin, on Bruce's page you said:
"My problem lies more in tapping their intrinsic motivations."
I'm beginning my 9th year of teaching and this is still the Big Issue. The main problem is that while we're trying to tap their "intrinsic motivations," the only tools we have are, by definition, extrinsic. The other problem is the whole issue of compulsory attendance. It seems to me that we can either force kids to come to school, or we can demand that those who do are fascinated. But we can't do both.
So, I try to excite the kids, fascinate them, enrage them, etc. etc. etc., and I recognize that, at times, my extrinsic demands will match their intrinsic fascinations. But I'm becoming aware of my limitations in this area.
You are looking very happy -- and I see part of the reason for that -- your gorgeous baby.
Enjoy! They are so beautiful and interesting to sit and watch, and play with.
Love, David Linwood and family
Hi Kristen,
Nice picture. Happy looking baby and mamma. Good to see you've joined the crew here.
Korzybski had a great interest in reading and so-called reading problems and in fact a lot of his students did research on reading and literacy. I'm researching some of that now, so as I come up with related stuff I'll make sure to point out some of it here.
Kristen,
Great name. Same as our youngest daughter. You no sooner put your name on this board than I am going to ask for your help. When that cute little baby takes a nap, put your feet up and visit our web site--www.k-12-communication.com. We need comments and suggestions. There is several hours of reading so I hope the baby takes a lot of naps.
Thanks for your help.
Frank

I've taken an off-line vacation and when I came back on, voila! There you are! Will write soon to your other account about babies and stuff like that.
