I'm sending out the following announcement to about 100 GS friends today:
I wanted to give you a quick update on what I've been doing this year, and to tell you about a couple of online resources you might want to check out.
First, I continue to teach my GS course as an adjunct professor here at TCU in Fort Worth. I had 46 students this semester and had to significantly alter my teaching approach due to the large class. I incorporated more structure, more Powerpoint presentations, and used over 70 video clips throughout the semester. I was very pleased with the results and especially gratified by an email I received from a graduating senior, who wrote:
"I just wanted to let you know, that despite appearances of apathy some days, your class truly was by far the best I've taken at TCU. I know I, as well of many of my classmates, will always consider your class the most influential and educational I've ever experienced."
I've just completed a major update/revision to my personal website, www.ThisIsNotThat.com. I'm in the process of adding just about everything I've developed in terms of teaching materials, demonstrations, exercises, etc., including dozens of media files and Powerpoint presentations. I hope you'll check it out, particularly some of the abstracting demonstrations (such as an online video version of the Benham Disc and a unique listening exercise that also incorporates a video) and the Powerpoint summaries. For teachers, I've included copies of my past course syllabi, quizzes, and exams.
I'm also pleased to say that there is now a new online social network established for the purpose of sharing and expanding GS. For the past couple of weeks several of us have been familiarizing ourselves with the terrific capabilities at Ning.com. Now I invite you to join us at ThisIsNotThat.ning.com and take advantage of all the free Ning services such as blogs, discussion boards, upload photos, audio files, videos, etc. Once you've set up your profile, you can develop it as you want and also link in to any of the other 260,000 networks hosted on Ning.
I do hope you'll check out these two new online resources and let me know what you think.
